If you’re in New York and looking for the quintessential New York Steakhouse, I can’t encourage you strongly enough to visit Dylan Prime in Tribeca. Having close friends who live around the corner means that I’ve been fortunate enough to eat here on a few occasions; each meal has been excellent.
Do not even look at the list of appetisers - even the smaller steaks on the menu are overwhelmingly large. Instead, order the house cocktail - a vodka martini served with three olives, each generously stuffed with blue cheese.
Choose a steak and then select either a sauce or a “chapeau” - invariably, I have the smaller New York strip with a Maytag blue chapeau and I always struggle to eat much more than half of it. The sides are also not to be missed, particularly the truffle and potato croquettes and the macaroni cheese with lobster.
There’s an extensive wine list and service is always top notch. The food might not be as innovative or as technically challenging as what you’d find at Grammercy Tavern or another of the city’s more storied, and starred, locations, but Dylan Prime is definitely my top New York recommendation.
